Mashed Potatoes Long Overdue
For Sale or Rent: Stomach; used and in good shape, incompatible with Amenahs, Babars, and Leeps. Approximately 5ft x 7ft, rubbery, and angry. Angry at the world. And at all Amenahs.
A great way to start orientation: start it with the stomach flu. Well, at first we didn’t know what it was, but I was sick. And I do mean sick. Have you ever wanted to bang your head on a concrete wall to distract your pain receptors towards something else? Yeah, well that’s where it was. So I went to Urgent Care. And the Doc’s like, “Yeah, well you seem to have an elevated WBC count; but come back if you get sicker.” Gee thanks. There goes another 200 bucks.
Hey, it could have been appendicitis, but I’m all better now. Sort of. I think my precious gurgling tummy is about to expire. I still get a lil nauseous once in a while. Maybe I’m just seriously stressed out. So, you interested in buying?
I’ve finally started the next phase of my life. I’m totally loving the biostats course—funny, huh? Who would have guessed that I simply love to crunch numbers. Crunch. And then there’s SAS. Shoot, I forget what that even stands for. But have you ever wondered how to compute the mean and the max of three variables, WHILE collapsing two data sets? Well, ponder no longer.
***create library from SAS data file, to create shortcut to data**** libname a 'C:\Documents and Settings\a268Mayo_user\Desktop\Lib A'; ****display contents of data from library a--using clinical data*****; proc contents data = a.clinical; proc print data = a.clinical; run;******Collapsing data for Patient Numbers with three variables and twosummary sets mean and max***; proc means data = a.clinical ; class patnum; var CHOL SBP DBP; output out = collapse mean = mean_chol mean_sbp mean_dbp max = max_chol max_sbp max_dbp run;
It’s funny, cuz my advisor, this super-tall amazing guy who met me in his socks on our first mtg, is teaching the course. He makes all these hilarious jokes, and I’m sitting there cracking up, while the serious older, more mature students (some are MDs and Phders) look at me like I’m some sort of bouncing bunny rabbit with a basket of Easter Eggs. That’s right. I said bunny rabbit. Heh, and my professor on the first day goes, "Okay, so I'm an extremely tough grader. In fact, for the past so many years (i forget how many) I've only given 10 Bs. The rest are, well, the only other option, As." Me: "chuckle chuckle". No one else laughs. Professor, desperate to clarify: "You, as a matter of fact, have to really really work hard to get a B." Grades, apparently, don't matter anymore in grad school. I've decided that I'm going to get a 4.0. You heard me right. A 4.0. (ever heard of pride comes before a fall? oh dear. i need to stop this slacking bizness, and snap up my game. )
OH, and dude, I’ve learned so much about Minnesota in the last few months. I mean, I’ve lived here my entire life, and I discovered some really interesting facts. I wish I could remember them now to share them with you, some of them are kind of funny. This a completely pointless paragraph. Maybe I should start another one.
But this one could just be as pointless.
I won a bike the other day. I entered this raffle thingie at the transportation fair at Coffman Union—I needed to learn the bus system. And a week later, I get this email saying that I had won a free bike, helmet and headlights. “SWEET!”, I say to myself, and jump up and down, and run out of my room to tell my housemates the good news, cept they weren’t there, so I had to settle with Floppy, Elmo, and Tommy Bear witnessing my sheer delight expressed with turning up my music. Really really. Loud.
I’ve been going to Prepare these days, and it is so refreshing to be in awesome fellowship again. Pastor Gary spoke on keeping our hearts with diligence. Have you heard of the ostrich story? It’s in Job 39:13-18, and describes this foolish ostrich who leaves her eggs on the ground—open to danger. P. Gary then connects the eggs to our hearts, and how we should be careful to guard them from harmful things. Heh. God is seriously teaching me about patience. And to count it all joy amidst the grief of loss. But, you know, I’m like “God, NOW sounds great. What about now???” And He’s like, “My silly sweet child. Just a little longer.” So I’m waiting. For the best. No more compromising. Wow. God is so GOOD to me.
Word.
So Rashi, I’m sorry I’ve left you without words for the past hmmm….month or two? Samara, you really need to catch up! And with me!
But finally. A few more thoughts from a Real Good Writer:
"The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD." ~Proverbs 16:33 and
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters which spreads out its root by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but her leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.” ~ A Prophet. His name: Jeremiah
(I'm having WAY too much fun with this cool webcam that you sent me Shano! Thank you! You rock. My socks. Everyone should get on MSN to chat with me. Cuz I like excuses to use it. )
