Of Aprils and Fools
Phone Dude: Wess speaking
Me: Oh, hello, I'm calling concerning the DVD Bible offer--the advertisement I just saw on CNN....
(pause)
Me: Yes, well, you see I have a question. I'm curious, I see you have the DVD in King James Version, but do you by chance have it also in New King James?
Wess: Well...I can certainly try to answer your question...What is your zipcode?
Me: (pause as I'm contemplating the reasoning for that type of question, wondering whether he could send me solicitations..finally i decide there is no harm, since the dude doesn't know my name) *****
Wess: Okay, thanks... (proceeds to rapidly pitch sales speech): blah blah blah..something Bible...limited offer...blah blah....free children's video...blah blah blah....one time offer! what better deal could you possibly find!...(finally) And yes the DVD Bible comes in the Old and New Testament.
Me: (a lil bewildered by the unexpected sales pitch) Right. I was wondering though, I know you have this in the King James Version, do you have it in the (major emphasis here) New King James Version?
Wess: Why yes, mam, as I've mentioned it comes in the Old and New Testament.
Me: (holding back a chuckle) Yes, well. I mean do you have different versions: not the old King James, but the New.
Wess: Mam, the Old comes with the New Testament.
Me: Thank you Wess. I think you've answered my question.

Baptism
Me to all my friends, including Azra and Imran:
"Hey, guess what?"
Them: "What?" (most were probably thinking that I had gotten news from harvard, or that I had finally accomplished to trick some poor unsuspecting foolish boy to pretend to be my boyfriend.)
Me in corny exclamation: "I'm getting...(pause for dramatic effect)..baptized!"
Them, and I mean all of them (probably in some sort of unison, except that they're all sprawled out across the country/ world and it was on different days) (and in case you are forgetful, that also includes Azra and Imran, my blood):
"Yeah? Aren't you already baptized?"
The same exact phrase from everyone. No one jumped up and down. Well, actually, that's not all true-- Rashika did a better job at responding, I have to give her credit. But the rest of you...! tsk tsk!
So, I did it today, in a pool--a mighty warm soothing pool.
I suppose I'll give you some more detail later. This is just for the record.
G'nite for now, since I'm exhausted.

Words of Wisdom
1.
Take your hand out of the car door. Preferably before someone, ahem, Akochi, slams it shut.
Yeah. Ouch.
2.
If you are in the mood to bawl your eyes out for a day straight, watch Lifetime.
3.
Don't gleefully wave around an agar plate containing a contaminating spore; and then don't open the agar plate after someone like John tells you not to open the agar plate to prevent it from spreading.
4.
buy new computers using the govt's money--for work. like, a dell latitude D810. better yet, plan to order a recreational system through Ambis next week.
5.
if you are on a diet, don't make baklava.
6.
go home. don't work on weekends, late evenings, and early mornings. choose one or the other, but not all of the above.
7.
eat vegetables.
